It is the largest grant the charity has ever received and Addaction isgoing to spend it on giving high-level support to young people withacute drug and alcohol problems.
Addaction plans to deliver a three-year therapeutic care programme inpartnership with Adfam, a national organisation that works with familiesaffected by drugs and alcohol. The programme will be for young peopleaged 11 to 19 and will offer crisis intervention, access torehabilitation treatments and family support.
It will also forge links with supported housing, identifying need andsetting up referral procedures to ensure that 16- to 18 year-olds do notfall through the net.
Deborah Cameron, chief executive of Addaction, said: "Addaction will bedrawing on its expertise in providing intensive support to deliver thisprogramme, which we believe will be of enormous value to young peoplewith severe substance misuse problems.
