Funding Watch: Each One Teach One

1 min read Youth Work

What is it? Launched last year by musician Plan B – otherwise known as Ben Drew – this trust funds projects in London to help young people develop their skills and employment opportunities in an effort to reduce the number of 16- to 24-year-olds not in education, employment or training (Neet).

As well as funding projects, Each One Teach One (EOTO) seeks to create partnerships across the private, charity and training sectors. “EOTO is building networks to take young people out of negative environments and help them find places and activities where they can express themselves,” says Drew.

How much is available? Funding is from an unspecified donation from Drew as well as donations from the private sector and the public. The maximum grant is £20,000 and is handed out on a case-by-case basis.

What will it fund? The focus of funding is on projects that offer the chance for Neet young people to gain creative and employable skills. This includes boxing, drama, media training, music production, video production, hair styling and music event management. Last year it awarded four grants, which went to The Hair Project Foundation, Box4Life, Chats Palace, and Assemble & Join.

A spokeswoman for EOTO says: “The Hair Project Foundation was particularly interesting as they set up a training salon in the community.” The trust has also worked with private sector organisations such as Sky to set up and run its own EOTO Media-branded workshops.

The initial focus of the trust’s funding will be in four east London boroughs: Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. Drew hopes to offer funding UK-wide at a later date.

When is the deadline? There is no set deadline.
