Funding Watch: Biffaward Main Grants Fund

1 min read

What is it? Biffaward was created by Biffa Waste Services by donating its landfill tax credits through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), a tax scheme that allows operators of landfill sites to contribute money to charitable causes. Biffaward is a national fund that gives grants to community and environmental schemes, and has provided more than £100m to UK projects since 1997.

How much is on offer? Organisations can apply for funds of between £5,000 and £50,000. Because of LCF regulations, only 90 per cent of a grant can be provided from landfill tax credits, therefore those applying for a grant must also enlist the support of a third party that can pay Biffa Waste Services the final 10 per cent, thus enabling Biffaward to provide the full grant.
