The Department for Education and Skills received bids amounting to 178m for its Children, Young People and Families Grant Programme.
A range of youth organisations received awards, including The National Youth Agency, The Foyer Federation, the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services, the UK Youth Parliament and The Prince's Trust. The department had hoped to make the announcement earlier, but was taken by surprise by the number of applications. This also meant young people were not involved in deciding which organisations got funding.
The grant replaces five previous schemes: the Children and Young People's Participation Fund, the National Voluntary Youth Organisations Grant Scheme, Safeguarding Children and Supporting Families Grants, Strengthening Families Grants, and Sure Start VCS grants.
