Futurebuilders England approved an investment of nearly 1.4m to the trust in December 2004 to develop the CareZone technology and extend the service (YPN, 23 February-1 March 2005, p5), nearly 846,000 of which has since been spent. Most of the investment was in a loan, to be paid back through local authority subscriptions.
The trust had aimed to attract 50 local authorities to the service. But at the turn of this financial year, it had managed just 12 renewals and six new subscribers. As of this month, the scheme had 15 subscribers, was negotiating with eight local authorities to renew their contracts and had six new potential subscribers, according to The Who Cares? Trust chief executive Susanna Cheal.
