Extended schools: Draft guidelines on budgets released

The Department for Education and Skills has published draft guidelines on which extended schools activities can be funded through schools' delegated budgets.

It proposes that activities benefiting pupils' education, such asafter-school clubs, study clubs or evening language classes for parents, can be funded from delegated budgets. But extended schools activitiesthat serve the wider community, such as childcare, cannot draw on thisbudget.

The guidelines propose forcing schools to account for the two types ofexpenditure separately.

The deadline for responses to Consistent Financial Reporting Framework2006/07 is 16 December.
