Under existing arrangements, certain types of providers, for exampleholiday sports clubs, are not required to register with either the EarlyYears Register or the Ofsted Childcare Register.
The England-only consultation, which closes on 23 April, proposes threeoptions: maintaining the current situation; modifying the list ofchildcare providers that are exempt; or simply compelling all providersto register.
Emma Knights, joint chief executive of the Daycare Trust, has alreadyexpressed concern that the consultation could lead to a greater numberof providers being exempt.
