The consultation seeks views on proposals to exempt some providers from mandatory Ofsted registration, in a bid to “simplify arrangements for providers and increase accessibility of these support services.”

Under current regulations, any provider offering adoption support services must register with Ofsted as an Adoption Support Agency (ASA).

DfE added that it "believes that aspects of this requirement are not working in practice".

The consultation’s first proposal would exempt providers of adoption support services from the Ofsted registration requirement, if they are working under contract with an adoption agency.

In its consultation document, DfE states it is aware that there are currently providers working under an adoption agency contract who have not registered with Ofsted despite the current requirement.
