One of the pioneers of the extended school model is to move into local government after 20 years of championing the concept in the voluntary sector.

Phil Street will step down as chief executive of education charityContinYou in November to join Bromsgrove District Council inWorcestershire as corporate director of services.

Street was appointed chief executive of ContinYou in February 2003, whenit was formed as a result of a merger of Education Extra and CEDC.Before that he was chief executive of CEDC.

He said it had been an "incredibly difficult decision" to stop focusingon extended schools but he was pleased to be leaving on a high note.

He said he was leaving because he wanted to take on a new challenge and"to bring that voluntary centre innovativeness to the local authoritysector".
