Letter: Extended schools are our future

1 min read
I've just read the Crib Sheet entitled Schools of the Future (Children Now, 9-15 June). The piece completely misses the point of extended schools.

Yes, extended schools are about co-locating services, but the piece massively underplays the significance this has for children's learning. It also only talks about full-service extended schools, but the concept of extended schools is intended to go well beyond these schools.

The organisation for which I am chief executive, ContinYou, is not mentioned despite the fact that we manage the Extended Schools Support Service.

Extended schools are arguably the most exciting development in the sector ever. They offer a whole system change.

They challenge the notion that children's performance can simply be a consequence of classroom teaching and school life.

They offer the chance to form a working partnership with agencies and the wider community.
