Monkseaton Community High School has signed a "memoranda ofunderstanding" with Microsoft and the Open University to form apathfinder trust school.
Professor David Reynolds of the University of Plymouth, who will chairthe trust, said it seemed "very favourable" that the proposals would beapproved when consultation finishes in March. "The school has alwaystried to be innovative and has had a range of external partners thathave done it real good," he said.
But teaching unions have united to fight the proposals. Ray Butler,regional officer for the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, said: "Iam concerned when large organisations like Microsoft come into a schoolthat there is a business reason behind it."
