The Department for Education and Skills plans to devise a code ofpractice that will include a revised section on the co-ordination ofadmission arrangements and protocols on "hard to place pupils". Therecould also be changes to implementing the duty to prioritise children incare.
The DfES is looking for comments on how the proposed changes wouldaffect faith schools. In a letter to local authorities, senior DfESofficial Stephen Crowne wrote: "We have amended the codes taking intoaccount recommendations made by the Education and Skills SelectCommittee." But the Local Government Association said that proposedchanges did not go far enough and said the code should be statutory.
