School's back! And the annual media angst about whether children have aschool place should be settling down. There's a consultation out aboutupdating the School Admissions Code of Practice and School AdmissionsAppeals Code of Practice.
More power to parents, I suppose. Steady on. Parliament's Education andSkills select committee reported on school admissions about a year agoand, unhappy with a lukewarm Government response, issued another set ofrecommendations in March 2005 as part of a review of secondaryeducation.
This included the assertion that the Government's apparent commitment toparental choice is somewhat superficial, and that the balance of poweris slipping away from parents towards "schools as admissions authoritieschoosing the children that they wish to admit".
