Briefing: Crib Sheet - Victims' code of practice

2 mins read
A consultation is underway for a code of practice for victims of crime to try to improve the standards of services they receive.

What happened when you reported it?

Details taken down, but not much hope of finding a culprit he didn't see. The thing is, I'm not sure they're doing everything they should be.

And your son is probably feeling worse than he's letting on. There is a victims' charter, but it's soon to be replaced by a Code of Practice for Victims, which is currently out for consultation. The legislation has become far more robust recently due to the passage of the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004.

Does it refer to child victims of crime? Of course it does. Huge numbers of children and young people are victims of crime. The code itself applies to anyone who tells the police that a crime has been committed against them.
