Keith Ajegbo, head of Deptford Green School in London and chair of the Education Practitioner Group, which developed the guidelines, said: "In any inspection of a school these issues should be taken into account, and if schools aren't doing any of these things we are suggesting these should affect their Ofsted result."
The Home Office has issued the standards for schools to help them promote race equality under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 (Children Now, 22-28 September).
Ofsted said its next update to inspectors would make them aware of the standards.
A spokeswoman said: "The current inspection framework includes a focus on inclusion, which covers similar areas to community cohesion standards."
