Education News: Inspections - Ofsted wants more parents involved

Parents could become more involved in school inspections if Ofsted proposals get the go ahead.

A consultation launched by the schools' inspectorate aims to make inspection reports more helpful to pupils and parents.

Ofsted proposes using the internet, and providing schools with a leaflet to distribute, including a questionnaire for parents to return to inspectors. Inspectors will also agree to meet with parents should they request it.

Ofsted says using lay inspectors to review how useful reports are to an area would involve more non-professionals in the process, but these inspectors will not be included on all inspection teams if the proposals are adopted.

The deadline for responses is 17 December. www.ofsted.gov.uk.
