Change for Children News: Inspection - Parents and children could take a role in new service inspections

1 min read
Children and their parents could be involved in the integrated inspection of children's services under plans put out to consultation by Ofsted this week.

It follows the launch last week by children's minister Margaret Hodge of Every Child Matters: Change for Children, which provides the national framework for local change in children's services.

As Children Now revealed (24-30 November), the five outcomes in Every Child Matters are divided into 25 indicators, spelling out the Government's expectations of all partners involved in children's services. These outcomes are linked to key national targets and indicators, which in turn are linked to a range of inspection criteria.

The proposed inspection system integrates judgments about education, youth services, social and health care and evaluates the way they work together to improve services for children.
