Education News: Inclusion - Jewish secondary to focus on SEN

The UK's first inclusive Jewish secondary school will offer a special unit for children with profound learning disabilities, under plans backed by Barnet Council last week.

The proposed 40m Jewish Community Secondary School (JCoSS) will cater for 1,000 pupils and it will have a special educational needs unit available to 70 children.

Children's charity Norwood and World ORT, the educational Jewish charity, are also supporting JCoSS.

The Department for Education and Skills is expected to make a decision in July and if it approves the plans the school should open in 2009.
