Education News: Special needs - Secondary schools failing oninclusion

Mainstream secondary schools are not inclusive enough, according to a new report commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills.

The National Audit of Support, Services and Provision for Low IncidenceNeeds found there was "a need for significant development" in themainstream secondary sector and urged ministers to take action on theissue.

It recommended: "The DfES should strengthen its expectations ofinclusive provision in all secondary mainstream schools."

The report also said that ministers should do more to ensure thatmainstream special educational needs resource bases for children withlow incidence needs "promote local inclusion".
