Education News: Extended schools - Schools told child safety a toppriority

Schools have been told to make children's safety the top priority when deciding who should run extended services.

The Government last week published draft guidance on the checks neededon school staff. It comes after Ofsted's damning expose of schools'failure to keep adequate records of Criminal Records Bureau checks onteachers (Children Now, 21-27 June).

The guidance, Child Protection: Safer recruitment and vetting in theeducation service, says schools must look carefully at any organisationproviding extended services.
