Government advisors want to see schools across England introducingmarkets run by pupils and serving the local community.
The Training and Development Agency is keen for schools to build on thesuccess of a scheme developed by a primary school in a disadvantagedpart of Merseyside. The idea has already been pitched to a number ofschools in the capital and at least six are understood to be pursuingit.
Beach Road Primary School in Sefton, which has almost half of itschildren on free school meals, set up a market last year followingdiscussions with the Government's National Remodelling Team. To beginwith, parents were given the task of overseeing the market stalls. Nowthe pupils oversee the stalls and promote the market themselves.
