The Department for Education and Skills is also seeking to appoint aprimary regional adviser for raising the achievement of AfricanCaribbean pupils.
It also wants two regional advisers to lead the extension of theMinority Ethnic Achievement Project, which focuses on strategies tomaximise the progress of pupils from Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Somali andTurkish backgrounds. And they are advertising for two regio-nal advisersfor gifted and talented pupils.
The National Association for Language Development in the Curriculumsaid: "With many schools and local authorities facing increasingchallenges in supporting pupils learning English as an additionallanguage in our schools, we hope such moves signal an acceptance of theneed to establish a coherent long-term policy to meet the needs andentitlements of these learners both from established communities andthose who are more recently arrived."
