Education News: Education stats - Wolverhampton

48% of looked-after children in year 11 in full-time education in 2001/2 (55.6 per cent in England)

- 17.1% of nursery and primary school pupils taking free school meals in 2003 (13.9 per cent in England)

- 1.2% of half days missed from secondary schools due to unauthorised absence in 2002/3 (1.07 per cent in England)

- 61% of pupils achieved level 5 or above at Key Stage 3 Science in 2002/3 (68 per cent in England)

Councillor Christine Irvine, cabinet member for education at Wolverhampton City Council, said: "We are working with all our schools and in partnership with Wolverhampton College and local employers to offer a city-wide choice of learning pathways to suit all our young people. We want to ensure young people in care reach their full potential."
