67% of 16-year-olds in full-time education in 2001 (71 per cent in

England)

Tameside council said inclusion, achievement and progress for all was its vision for its schools. Councillor Joe Kitchen, its cabinet deputy for lifelong learning, said: "Our aim is to have high-attaining schools improving faster than national figures, with attendance above the national average and exclusions below the national average. We are pleased that secondary unauthorised absence hit an all-time low in 2002/3 of 0.43 per cent." Source: DfES.
