EDUCATION NEWS: Education Stats - Surrey

78% of pupils achieved level five or above at key stage three in maths in 2002/3 (71 per cent in England)

25% of looked-after children in year 11 in 2001/2002 are in training or employment (18 per cent in England)

6.2% of pupils had free school meals in 2003 (13.9 per cent in England)

0.29% of pupils with unauthorised half-day absences in primary schools in 2002/3 (0.43 per cent in England)

Surrey County Council is tackling truancy by installing an automatic parent notification system at 25 secondary and 20 primary schools.

Working with the Learning and Skills Council, Surrey aims to raise attainment overall at 16+ by providing full-time education for children out of school and improving standards of education and care for looked-after children.
