- 0.06% of pupils permanently excluded in 2002/03 (0.12 per cent in England)
- 78.6% of pupils with new statements of special educational needs placed in mainstream schools in 2002 (76 per cent in England)
Improvement rates that are faster than the national average have helped Darlington to become the North East's highest-placed education authority in the Government's league tables. Focused on raising standards, and with an investment of 14m in school buildings over the past five years, the education authority supports 48 schools.
