Education News: Education Stats - Caerphilly

3.2% of secondary school pupils permanently excluded in 2002/3 (1.7 per cent in Wales)

10.3% of classes where more than half the curriculum is taught in Welsh (20.4 per cent in Wales)

80.7% of pupils with statements in mainstream schools in January 2004 (74.6 per cent in Wales)

59.4% of pupils achieved Level 5 or above at Key Stage 3 English in 2003 (64.7 per cent in Wales)

Councillor David Hardacre, cabinet member responsible for education, said: "Improving standards in education is one of Caerphilly's main priorities and we are very proud of the achievements in our local schools. Our record of providing new schools over recent years demonstrates our commitment to continual improvement."
