Education News: Education stats - Bridgend

20.1% of pupils with statements in mainstream schools in January 2004 (74.6 per cent in Wales)

- 8.2% of classes where more than half of curriculum teaching is in Welsh in January 2003 (20.4 per cent in Wales)

- 0.9per 1,000 pupils permanently excluded from secondary schools in 2002/3 (1.7 per cent in Wales)

- 18.7% of pupils entitled to free school meals in January 2004 (17.6 per cent in Wales)

A spokesman for Bridgend County Borough Council said: "We are proud of our Welsh medium primary schools' achievements in raising standards at Key Stages 1 and 2. This provision will be extended when we open our first Welsh medium comprehensive school. We are also pleased that the rate of permanent exclusions is well below the average for Wales."
