- 47.4% of pupils with statements in mainstream classes in January 2004 (52.6 per cent in Wales)
- 3.7% of classes where more than half the curriculum was taught in Welsh in January 2003 (20.4 per cent in Wales)
A spokeswoman for Blaenau Gwent Council said many initiatives were improving conditions for families. "Nursery education, breakfast clubs, and projects to help parents value their children's development at an early age, all have an impact," she said. The Welsh language is taught in all schools and demand for lessons taught using Welsh is met.
