Education News: Education stats - Wrexham

1.5 per 1,000 secondary school pupils permanently excluded from school in 2003/04 (1.6 per 1,000 in Wales)

- 13.9% of pupils entitled to free school meals in January 2004 (17.6 per cent in Wales)

- 25 pupils in each primary class in January 2004 (24.5 in Wales)

- 37.2% of pupils with statements in mainstream classes in January 2004 (52.6 per cent in Wales)

Wrexham has just under 20,000 pupils of school age. It is a linguistically and culturally diverse authority. About 14 per cent of the population speaks Welsh and 33 schools provide additional support for minority ethnic pupils. It also provides a location for approximately 50 Traveller families.
