Five councils - Coventry, Dudley, Staffordshire, Walsall andWorcestershire - have set up a network with education charity ContinYou.The Department for Education and Skills has given its backing to theproject and it is understood that children's minister Beverley Hughes iskeen to see the network replicated throughout England.
A spokeswoman for ContinYou said the network was timely since thousandsof children's centres could be built on school sites over the next fewyears. She said: "The aim of the network will be to secure the mosteffective working relations, share and pool experience, jointly explorechallenges and promote greater integration between extended schools andchildren's centres."
Paul Woodcock, extended schools co-ordinator at Staffordshire CountyCouncil, said representatives from extended schools and children'scentres across the five councils had begun holding regular meetings witha view to disseminating best practice across the country.
