Last week it emerged that charities 4Children and ContinYou had won anational contract to advise English councils on setting up children'scentres (Children Now, 4-10 October). A letter to directors ofchildren's services about the changes, seen by Children Now, saysadvisers will meet "areas' individual needs".
But one local authority head of early years said: "We'll be working withpeople who are supposed to be advising us, but we will probably knowmore than them already. It's not clear how they are going to support usyet. The children's centres initiative is moving very quickly, if thereis a hiatus in support this would have a significant effect."
