Education News: Bullying - Proposals to tackle prejudice expected

Schools minister Jim Knight was this week expected to announce plans to prevent Muslim and other children being bullied.

As Children Now went to press, Knight was due to address a conference ontackling prejudice-related bullying being held by the teacher's unionNASUWT.

Speaking in the run-up, he said: "Bullying of any kind should not betolerated. I am working hard with various organisations, includingteaching unions such as NASUWT, to ensure prejudice-driven bullying isstamped out."

The conference comes two weeks after Muslim girls at a comprehensiveschool in Nottingham were abused and hit by White pupils after theschool prevented them from praying inside.

The minister was also expected to use his speech to flag upAnti-bullying Week, which takes place next week.
