It will award a tender in the next few weeks to develop guidance forteachers. The guidance is due to be published during Lesbian GayBisexual Transgender History Month next February.
Labour MP Shahid Malik revealed the plans last week at a conference forteachers organised by the gay rights group Stonewall. Malik, who isprivate secretary to schools minister Jim Knight, said the Governmentwas focused on stamping out prejudice-driven bullying as well as knifeattacks and other violence in schools that had recently attracted mediaattention.
The plans come just weeks after Labour MP Barry Sheerman, chair ofParliament's Education and Skills Select Committee, lambasted Governmentinspectors for not doing enough to tackle homophobic bullying in schools(Children Now, 17-23 May).
