The audit looked at seven primary schools in the Beeston and Holbeck learning zone, an education action zone run by the education charity Learning Partnerships.
At Cottingley Primary School, the introduction of new lunchtime activities a year ago has halved incidents. The school employed two lunchtime workers to help out, and children can now take part in activities such as an indoor board game club, a line-dancing club or organised playground ball games.
Clare Bevington, Cottingley's head teacher, said: "The children found a whole hour of unstructured play quite daunting. Teachers now spend less time dealing with playground incidents after lunch, which frees up their time to teach."
