Early years: Somerset unveils centre blueprint

Plans for a 3m children's centre in Burnham-on-Sea, one of 20 to being developed in Somerset within the next two years, have been unveiled.

Town councillors in Burnham have received plans to build the centre onland next to Burnham Infants School, which it will have links with. Itwill also have links with Jobcentre Plus and other nearby schools. Ifapproved, construction could start in 2008.

There are already 16 children's centres in Somerset, including three inTaunton and one in Glastonbury. Others will be in Street, Ilminster andShepton Mallet.
