How does it differ from existing Jobcentre Plus services? Children's centres' links with job centres have tended to be limited in scope, with staff just signposting parents to job centres. However, at Estcourt the adviser works within the centre and is an integrated part of the team. This role can involve them going on home visits with outreach workers or attending family support meetings.
Why is Estcourt involved? Its catchment area covers 945 under-fives, with more than half of these in the 30 per cent most deprived areas of Hull.
What funding does the scheme get? Hull is one of 10 pilot authorities, each receiving £300,000. Jobcentre Plus will fund the adviser, who will have access to around £20,000 per year until March 2011, through funds from the government and local partners.
