The Children's Workforce Development Council published a prospectus forthe new role last week. It explains who is eligible, different trainingroutes and financial support available.
The council says up to 9,300 people could go through the programme byApril 2008. The routes vary from three months, part time, to one year, full time, depending on qualifications.
The move will disappoint those who called for experience to be takeninto account.
However, the council has promised to look at how people with Level 3qualifications and experience can achieve the status.
Early years professionals will have to meet national standards that areto be published on 17 July, when the council will also release detailsof how training providers can get involved in the next phase of theprogramme.
