Early years: Nursery staff will train each other

Nursery staff in west Yorkshire can learn how to train their colleagues through a National Day Nurseries' Association scheme.

The association announced last week that it had got more than 50,000 of funding from the Learning and Skills Council for WestYorkshire to subsidise the scheme, which begins this month.

The Learning Mentor programme, believed to be the only one of its kind, will train nursery staff to identify the training needs of theircolleagues, secure funding for training and give their own courses. Thefunding will subsidise the cost of the places so nurseries will pay60 for the introductory course and 220 for theintermediate course. There are 60 subsidised places on the introductorycourse and 12 at intermediate level. The scheme will end in March2006.
