The centres, developed under the Neighbourhood Nurseries initiative, will constitute the first time the charity has offered its own childcare provision.
As well as providing support and training to NDNA members, the centres will help private nursery providers find ways in to the Government's childcare models, such as children's centres, as part of an NDNA contract with the Department for Education and Skills and the Sure Start unit.
The first centre opened last week in Hartlepool. Four more will follow later this year, in Widnes, Hounslow, Grantham and Birmingham.
Four of the centres - which each cost between 1m and 1.4m - are newly constructed and will offer around 80 childcare places alongside training for nursery workers, community meeting space and adult education, including basic skills and IT training.
