I used to think having a good time meant getting drunk and having scraps on the street. But since joining Bolton Lads & Girls Club four years ago I've realised you can really enjoy yourself by doing positive things like playing sport and helping others.

The club gets young lads like me off the streets and into a safe and supervised environment - there are now more than 3,000 young people using the facilities and activities each week. I volunteer and help run holiday programmes.

Recently, a group of us took part in the National Lottery's Britain Has Balls tour in Manchester, which was an event to celebrate Lottery funding - I didn't realise the Lottery raises £25m each week for projects like ours. Bolton Lads & Girls Club has really come on recently thanks to a £4m Lottery grant, which went a long way towards funding our new clubhouse and facilities. I feel very proud to be part of something so successful.
