The Criminal Records Bureau announced last week that from 1 April next year charges for police checks in England and Wales would go up by 4.
The rise will see the cost of a standard check reach 28 while an enhanced check will be 33.
Susanne Rauprich, chief executive of NCVYS, said: "The announcement that charges will be increased for the second time in just nine months is highly disappointing news for the voluntary and community youth sector.
"The further increase of 17 per cent will impose significant financial strain on already overstretched voluntary and community organisations that are committed to safeguarding the young people with whom they work and support."
