Consultation of the Week: Inspection of children's homes

1 min read Social Care
What's it all about? In light of the Department for Education's current review of the minimum standards for children's homes' regulations and guidance, Ofsted has launched a consultation on changes to how it inspects children's homes.

The proposals intend to keep Ofsted's inspection procedures up-to-date in accordance with the government's new draft regulations.

What are the main points? Respondents will be asked for their opinions on whether the views of children and young people themselves should be central to children's home inspections, and whether all children's homes should be subject to a full annual inspection. An interim inspection has also been suggested, which would look at the progress the home has made. Views are also sought on whether all children's home inspections should be unannounced.

Who can have their say? Ofsted wants to gain a wide-ranging perspective and would therefore like to hear from anyone with expertise, knowledge or experience of children's homes. It is particularly interested in the views of children and young people who live in or have lived in homes themselves.
