Speaking in an exclusive interview with CYP Now, John Goldup claimed the daily experiences of children and young people will be at the heart of a revised inspections framework, set to come into force in April 2011.
He admitted that some providers may be nervous about no-notice checks, but that children in care are adamant about the need for such inspections. "They say we should come and see the home as it is," he explained. "They say we should just turn up. We've really listened to that."
Proposals for the new inspections are currently out for consultation, but Goldup said responses so far "support the principle that the voices of children and young people should be central to the inspection process".
