Consultation on the Publication of Children's Homes Inspection Reports.

Ofsted is considering publishing children's homes reports on its website, as it does with other social care reports. It says the move would give local authorities and parents easier access to information but it is also conscious of the need to protect children and young people who live in children's homes.

Currently, if someone wants a copy of a children's home inspection report they have to use the Freedom of Information Act. Ofsted then makes a copy of the report and removes the address of the home and any content that may identify a child. It is also consulting directly with children and young people who live in children's homes on whether the reports should be published.

The consultation asks if inspection reports on homes with more than three children should be published and what safeguards there should be.

It expects that initial feedback from the consultation will be available during November, with a full report on the results available on its website by December.
