Ofsted consults on public reports

Social Care
Ofsted has launched a consultation into plans to publish inspection reports for children's homes. The reports are currently only available on demand under the Freedom of Information Act, but the government is looking to bring homes into line with other areas of inspection such as schools and make the reports more widely available.

The consultation, which ends on 16 September, is seeking the views of children's professionals as well as children in homes. Among the issues under discussion are the safeguarding implications of making the addresses of children's homes public.

Brian Jones, chief executive officer of schools and children's home provider SENAD Group, said: "Because we offer school services with our children's homes our reports are already available. We haven't had any problems with safeguarding."

A full report on the consultation's results will be published in December.
