Connexions: Youth engagement rates at a standstill

1 min read

Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire received information from nearly half of the 47 Connexions partnerships. Steve Stewart, chief executive of the partnership, said the research showed the latest Department for Education and Skills' figure of 105,000 16- to 18-year-olds in the NEET category could be halved if more Entry to Employment and other learning placements were made available.

Connexions is conducting a national count of 16- to 18-year-olds in the NEET category at the end of next month. The count will also show the number of young people who are currently waiting for a place in learning but have not yet been offered one. "I think the figures have stabilised," said Stewart. "There has not been a huge growth in provision."
