Work-based learning: Lack of Entry to Employment places to affect school-leavers

The survey, conducted by Connexions Coventry & Warwickshire last month, asked partnerships how many 16-year-olds had attempted to find a place on e2e courses, or similar programmes.

An average of 300 to 400 young people in each of the 47 Connexions partnership areas were found to be in need of placements. Steve Stewart, chief executive of Connexions Coventry & Warwickshire, said: "If you're a kid who hasn't achieved much but wants an opportunity to carry on learning, the provision is not there. This is the big challenge. We're working with the Learning and Skills Council to ensure every young person leaving Year 11 gets an offer of learning."
