Analysis: Policy - Connexions - The battle to lower NEET figures

2 mins read

Nearly one in 10 young people aged 16 to 18 in England are not in education, employment or training (NEET). Despite efforts by Connexions partnerships to reduce the proportion to under six per cent by 2010, their data shows the proportion has remained stuck at 8.4 per cent since last year, with increases recorded in the Southeast, West Midlands and the East of England.

Connexions partnerships are having to go beyond informing young people about opportunities and multi-task.

Rising levels

Connexions Kent and Medway is better than average, but has seen a year-on-year increase in the proportion of young people in the NEET category from 6.8 per cent in March 2004 to 7.6 per cent in March this year.
