The local learning and skills council plans to reduce the amount of money available for Connexions Greater Merseyside's education business programme from 368,000 for this academic year to just 163,000 in 2005-06. The Wirral scheme is one of 126 Education Business Partnerships (EBP) across the UK funded by local learning and skills councils.
Ten jobs are at risk, although Connexions' core services will not be affected. Funding for other EBPs is also under threat.
Melanie Hunt, the director of young people's learning at the Learning and Skills Council, said the reduced contribution would be "more than made up for" by the extra 55m that is being made available for enterprise education in schools.
